Steve McQueen’s Record Collection
In the spring of 1963, LIFE magazine sent photographer John Dominis to California to spend three weeks with Steve McQueen, and document the 33-year-old on the verge of achieving superstardom. He shot 40 rolls of film, capturing “some astonishing images,” including the one on the left of McQueen at his Palm Springs bungalow, putting a record onto his portable turntable. The accompanying playlist is a collection of songs from albums seen in Dominis’ photo, including tracks from Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Count Basie.

Steve McQueen’s California Roadtrip
Curated by Tom Hoy, menswear writer and creator of Easy On The Ivy, Steve McQueen’s California Road Trip is a playlist that contains enough tunes to drive you from San Francisco to Los Angeles, California (1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback in Highland Green is optional).
